Ichigo Kurasaki has always been capable of seeing ghosts. His family is attacked by a hollow, a lost spirit. Ichigo becomes a soul reaper and dedicates his whole life to protect the innocent and assisting the lost souls in finding their way back to peace.
The world exists on the balance between the living and the dead. Soul Reapers have to maintain the balance between the dead and the living on top of hunting the hollows. If any energy is allowed to accumulate too much, really nasty things happen, this is happening right now. Ichigio and Uryu’s confrontation generates a load of hollows disturbing the overall balance of the Soul Society.
